Update on Swine Flu

·         Swine flu issues beginning to taper off.

·         In the event it becomes a pandemic, DOH will take the lead.

 

Update on Campus Security

·         Announcement of security incident made at Academic Senate.

·         Steps taken; issue has been downgraded to regular security.

·         Installation of Panic button discussed.

·         Out to Bid: closed circuit surveillance and emergency message.

 

Summer Plans and Publicity

·         Summer renewable energy series

o   At least 4 students enrolled from mainland

o   Growing interest from students

o   Katie’s Press release printed in a number of college newsletters

·         Marketing efforts to be focused on specific programs.

·         Application and registration process is difficult for students.

·         Katie to send marketing plan for the summer months to executive committee.

·         Katie to review enrollments of summer courses and to focus marketing as appropriate.

·         Alvin to work with Katie on changes and report at next meeting.

 

Laptop Initiative and Seton Hall

·         Curricular redesign plans underway

o   MyMathLab recommended.

o   Culinary, ABIT, Allied Health departments interested.

o   Need more science and math teachers. 

 

 

 

Katie to do an article for the Maui News. 

Suzette and Diane to identify positions for lecturer recruitment.

PIN – Post Secondary International Network

·         Core Steering Committee for PIN conference being formed

·         Arrangements for rooms finalized with Sheraton Waikiki on Oahu and Kea Lani on Maui.

·         Transportation being arranged.

 

Maui Sustainability Committee – Core from Energy Committee

Meeting dates being arranged by Alex.

 

 

O&M work

O&M staff was recognized and congratulated for the well-kept campus facilities and grounds.

 

360 degree photo tour on website

 

Katie reported on possible sites to be included in the virtual tour of the campus on the Maui CC website:

·         Library

·         Dining facility

·         Agriculture area

·         Students in Classrooms (release required)

·         Early Childhood facility

·         Sustainable construction technology

·         Student housing

o   More could be added, e.g., Hookipa, Paina, bookstore, Kaaike and OCET TV facilities, library, biotech lab, TLC, vocational shops, hula.

 

Program Reviews

 

Comprehensive program reviews were discussed and analyzed:

·         Business careers

o   More work needed on data portion

o   Need clear relationship between curriculum and demands of the industry

·         Media Center – solutions for multi-purpose room
